The Invert is of concrete 9" thick laid out in bays of 15'-0" x 12'-0" to correspond with the layout of the reinforced concrete piers which support the reinforced concrete roof of the beam and slab type. Overflow and washout arrange- ments have been provided.
The
Reinstatement of, and improvements to, Gardens.-Part of this work, which was designed by the Architectural Office in con- junction with the Superintendent of the Botanical and Forestry Department, was carried out under the contract for the Reservoir and part by the Architectural Office under a separate contract. The new layout consists of the construction of one large flat terrace at a level of about 244.00 A.O.D. This terrace replaces the two old ones situated at levels of 239.00 and 229.00 A.O.D. and incidentally provides a larger flat area. top of the roof slab was covered with a layer of two feet of garden soil and this has been turfed for the present. A new flight of granite steps was constructed on the East side and a new entrance to the Gardens from Albany Road was made on the West side. Other new features carried out included granite seats on the East and North sides, a shelter and two drinking fountains on the West side, gardener's stores, raised terraces and a water tank on the South side and lavatory and latrine accommodation on the East side.
The following are a few particulars of the works:-Capacity of Reservoir, 4.957 million gallons. Average depth when full, 16′-6′′. Area of top water level, 49,680 square feet. Number of piers, 251. Excavation, 25,560 cubic yards. Concrete in walls, 3,697 cubic yards. Concrete in Invert, 1,280 cubic yards. Con- crete in piers, 423 cubic yards. Concrete in roof, 1,156 cubic yards. Concrete in Toe walls, etc., 612 cubic yards. Concrete in piles 8′′ x 8′′, 1,430 linear feet.

237. Item R, Pipe Line (for Item Q), 24′′ supply main to Gardens Service Reservoir. This work was referred to in para- graph 199 of last year's Report. The work was actually com- pleted last year, but minor improvements were made near the Gardens Service Reservoir, and some reinstatement of road surfaces on the line of the pipe was found necessary.
